Part 1: Adams Nature Preserve
If you have ever booked with me, you know this is my go to location.
Whenever I am at Adams, I am the most comfortable because I know what the
end product is always going to look like. This location offers more than one
background, which makes it the best one stop spot. There is a beautiful tree line
where I like to capture the sun shining through when it is setting. That exact spot
offers openness in tall, flowing grass or short grass – giving us two spots in one.
There are also two other areas – one has a brown, wooden fence and the other
has a white fence to utilize where we would still get the tree line and sun set.
Another big reason Adams Nature Preserve is my favorite location is that it is
good to use year-round, but especially summer and fall. After family pictures,
kiddos can play at the preserve’s park or see the animals back by the barns!

Part 2: Hinton Hillview Park
Hinton Hillview Park is a great location for those small, quick sessions. It
offers two locations – Hinton Hillview North Entrance and Hinton Hillview South
Entrance. The North Entrance does close the gates on October 14, but the south is
always open. Before it is closed, I tend to only go to the North entrance – this spot
has tall grass, short grass, openness, a tree line, wild flowers, rocks, and a pond
with a sandy beach. The south entrance offers tall grass, short grass, and a hill
overlooking the sunset. One must be prepared to do a lot of walking up and down
hills at the south entrance. Summer and early fall are the best times for both
entrances at this location. Don’t forget to look for the elk when you are here!

Part 3: Downtown Sioux City
Tall, flowy grass has my heart, but it is really fun to get that “city” feel. I
recommend downtown for seniors – especially those who want 2 locations
(Adams Nature Preserve is not far!) and branding sessions that would benefit
from the downtown vibe. I like to park near Marto Brewing Co or behind Century
21 and do one big loop around. During that loop around – we will find brick
buildings, art and greenery on the sides of buildings, different colored walls or
doors, and flowers. Then we can drive to about any parking garage and capture
the taller buildings and city around us. One spot downtown that is outside of the
loop is the front of the Warrior Hotel – perfect for a classier look. We can make
downtown feel more western by utilizing The Butcher Shop’s Hereford Steer sign. Most of the greenery does get dull, so the best time of year is mid-summer to later fall, but most of the downtown area can be used year-round.

Part 4: Prism Studio
Prism studio is a new spot for me, but I have loved it so far. Although I am a
natural light photographer, I have become more comfortable and familiar with
the indoor flash units inside of the studio. There is a rental fee for one or two
hours of the studio space that the client will pay. We will need to book the studio
in advance via their website. The studio has three areas that are all open to use.
One is an open area with windows, a wood floor, and a brick white wall. In that
area there is a boho chair we can use or just the simple openness with the white,
brick wall. The second a is a room with a big, beautiful mirror and a bed with boho
décor. The third area is where we can use the paper backdrops (for a small price)
for any simple images – headshots, etc... Prism studio does also offer a client
closet for newborns, children, and moms that we can also rent. I will be using this
location more for holiday minis and during the winter months, but always open to
use year-round!

Part 5: Client’s Farm/Acreage
I grew up on my family’s show cattle operation where I was and still am
actively involved with the livestock industry. I know how important and
meaningful it is to capture family and senior sessions on a family farm, especially
when livestock is involved. My style of photography is western, so these sessions
are always my favorite. We get to tell more of a story and capture those personal
memories. The best thing to do prior to these sessions is discussing with each
other the location and sending pictures of background options to me. I will always
share tips and tricks when working with livestock for pictures and I can bring an
extra hand to help get those ears!
